MOVING
We are buying a home in the area. Can you
tell me which school my student will attend?
See School Boundaries below.
We have moved and my son/daughter prefers to stay
at the same high school. How do I arrange this?
When a student changes his/her residence and is still within
El Dorado Union High School District boundaries, the parent may apply for
an intradistrict transfer.
If the
new residence is outside of the El Dorado Union High School District,
the parent must contact the District Office of the district of which
the new residence exists to inquire about an interdistrict
transfer.

SCHOOL BOUNDARIES
How do I know
which high school my son/daughter will attend in the next school year?
You may contact the El Dorado Union High School District Student
Services office by phone at 530.622-5081, ext. 7224, or by
e-mail.
High school students will be expected to
attend the high school based on their home residence within the school's
boundaries. It is District practice, however, to allow current
students to remain at their current high school if a
school's boundary change should otherwise affect their school of
attendance. The District WILL NOT move current high school
students if their school boundary changes. It is also District
practice to allow siblings to attend the same high school if both
siblings are concurrently enrolled during the same school year
and reside within the same household.
Bus transportation, however, will only
be provided to students who live within the school's boundary. The
District cannot provide transportation to multiple schools from one
neighborhood. However, the student
will be allowed bus transportation if a parent chooses to drive the
student daily to a nearby bus stop within the attendance boundary of
the school of attendance. A bus fee application must be
completed and a bus pass purchased for the student. The
district cannot establish a new bus stop for an intradistrict
transferring student.

STUDENT TRANSFERS
How do I obtain information regarding a
school transfer for my son/daughter?
Intradistrict transfers are monitored very closely, rarely granted,
and strictly adhered to due to the impact on students
who live within the school's boundary.
Students are expected to attend their high school based on their home
address/residence. High school attendance boundaries will
apply. Very specific criteria are provided in
Board Policy and
Administrative Regulation
5116.2 that can be read in its entirety on the El Dorado Union High
School District website (link
to policies). Intradistrict transfers will be reviewed from
January 8 through January 31 for the following year. One application
will be considered during each application period; multiple applications
will not be considered.
A.
INTRA-District
The
two kinds of
Intradistrict Attendance Applications,
Comprehensive High School and Alternative
Education, are governed by Administrative
Regulations
5116.2
and
5118.1. Forms
can be obtained from the school sites or from the
District Office.
A.1 Comprehensive
High School. This
application is for students who have a critical need to attend a
comprehensive high school in our district other than the school of
residence. Specific criteria is provided in Board
Policy and Administrative Regulation
5116.2.
The application is filled out by the parent and
submitted to the
principal of the school of residence who submits the
application to the requested school. Parents/guardians
will be notified of approval or
denial of applications by May 1.
A.2 Alternative
Education. This
application is generated by the school of residence when it is felt the
student could be better served by an alternative school (e.g., behind in
credits). Parents can initiate a request to
transfer to an alternative site, or the school administration can
pursue an involuntary transfer based on Administrative Regulation
5118.1.
Further information is available from your schools
Counseling Office.
A.3.
Renewals. Students currently on an intradistrict
transfer are no longer required to submit an intradistrict transfer
application for the coming school year. These students
will be considered renewed unless the student's parent/guardian has
been contacted by a school administrator and notified of the
school's decision to deny the renewal. Only incoming freshmen
and new students (to the district) need to complete and submit an application.
A.4.
Siblings.
I have a
student at one of the comprehensive high schools. Will
his/her younger siblings be able to attend the same high school to
keep the family together?
Yes, we allow siblings to attend the same
high school if both siblings are concurrently enrolled during the
same school year and reside within the same household. Bus transportation, however,
is only provided to students who live within the school's boundary.

B.
INTER-District
B.1 Into Our
District.
Parents who reside in another school district
and wish to have their student(s) attend our district must go to the
district of residence and obtain an Interdistrict Attendance
Application. This application must be approved by the district of
residence before it is sent to El Dorado Union High
School District for approval. This application is processed
through the District Office of the respective school district. Upon
receipt of this agreement, it is reviewed or denied by the Director of
Student Services. Notice of approval or denial will be provided to the
district of residence, parents, and the requested school of attendance.
B.2 Out of Our District.
Parents who live in our district and wish to have their student attend a
school outside of our district must obtain, from the office of the
Director of Student Services, an Interdistrict Attendance Application.
This agreement must be approved by our district before being sent to the
district that the student wishes to attend.
Notice of approval or denial will be provided by the receiving district.

SUMMER SCHOOL
Where can I find information on Summer School for
my high school student?
The traditional summer school program is no longer
offered in the El Dorado Union High School District. An
intersession model was developed to remediate failing grades in selected
courses. One week of intersession will be offered following each
semester. One week will be held the third week of winter break in
January, and one week will be held the week following graduation, in
June. Course offerings and criteria for participation vary by
site. Please contact the counseling office at your child's school
for details.

WORK PERMITS
How does a student obtain a Work Permit?
All eligible students needing a Work Permit, while
school is in session, may acquire one by contacting the Career Center or
Counseling Office at
your respective school site. Acquiring a Work Permit is a two-step
process. Students must first obtain a
Statement of Intent to
Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit form. This form
contains sections for both the student and prospective employer to
complete and requires a parent signature. Once the Request for
Work Permit form is completed, it is taken to the appropriate office
for the actual Work Permit to be issued.
When
Summer School is in session, Work Permits may be obtained at the designated
high school site conducting Summer School. When any of these
locations are closed, a Work Permit may then be obtained at the District
Office (except during vacations) by contacting the Student Services
Office at (530) 622-5081, ext. 7224.
Also
refer to the
Student Handbook, page 10, for information
requirements on obtaining a Work Permit.
